The Orchestra is restarting!

After a year and a half of enforced inaction due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are delighted that the Peebles Orchestra is restarting, with a series of informal rehearsals to help everyone ease back into playing and meeting together.

Rehearsals will take place on Wednesdays, 7.30 - 9.30pm, in the Innerleithen Memorial Hall:

  • Wednesday 20 October

  • (no rehearsal on 27 October, join our AGM instead)

  • Wednesday 3 November

  • Wednesday 10 November

  • (no rehearsal on 17 November)

  • Wednesday 24 November

  • Wednesday 1 December

The autumn rehearsals will be conducted by Chris Dube.  We will play some of the orchestra's repertoire of music, including:

  • William Boyce: Symphony No. 2

  • W.A. Mozart: Overture from The Marriage of Figaro

  • W.A. Mozart: Overture from Cosi Fan Tutti

We will also play through some of the music planned for the spring 2022 concert, including Beethoven's Prometheus Overture and Symphony No. 3 (Eroica).

The autumn rehearsals will be run in line with current Scottish Government guidelines:

  • Face coverings must be worn while indoors (unless exempt), except while playing.

  • While playing, 1m separation between people (this is required so that face coverings can be removed in order to play).

  • People who don't have to remove their face covering in order to play (e.g. string players) are recommended to keep it on.

  • Follow Test & Protect rules: we will collect contact details; please stay at home if you have symptoms or a positive test.

  • We will provide hand sanitiser, and the hall is carrying out additional cleaning of surfaces, chairs, equipment, etc.

  • We are carrying out a risk assessment and will take any additional measures identified through that.

Please bring your own music stand.  We will have a break but will not be able to provide refreshments: please bring a flask if you would like a drink in the break.

We need to cover the cost of the hall hire: we will ask everyone who comes to these rehearsals to pay a small amount to cover the cost.  This is likely to be between £10 and £15 per person to cover all five rehearsals.  We will let you know the exact amount once we know how many people are coming to the rehearsals.

If you would like to come to the autumn rehearsals, please contact the Orchestra directly.  This will help us with our planning.  Everyone is welcome!
